Green Pastures School was started in 2000. We have a current population of 167 students and 8 teaching staff. The grades range from nursery level to grade 6. The school is situated in the outer suburbs of Accra in Awoshie, approximately 30 minutes from Accra. The area is lower middle class with an unsealed road and little drainage. Palm and papaya trees decorate the otherwise barren gardens; despite it being a city, goats and chickens wander about everywhere. The area is relatively peaceful and quiet for Accra, and is accessible by tro-tro, the local public transport.

Rosie Srao,
May-October 2006
"The school is wonderful, even though we are
hugely lacking in books, computers and teaching aids. The teachers and pupils
are plentiful in spirit and morale. It is a real child centered school, which is
not always common ground in schools over here."
US$ 250 if stay is less than 1 month, US $350 the first month and $100 for each month thereafter. This cost includes food, and accommodation. We also encourage volunteers to make a donations but this is totally optional!
Gunadiish, the project coordinator, and sometimes Deborah, the Green Pastures Project Coordinator, meet new volunteers at the airport and drive them to the project.
