Watoto Wa Africa Ministries was founded in 2000 by Josephat and Rosemary Kirutu, after they saw the drastic effects that HIV/AIDS was having on Africa and its children. Watoto Wa Africa means "Children of Africa." The project is currently home to over 45 orphans and street children. At Watoto Wa Africa children are provided with their human rights: food, water, shelter, clothing, education, and - most importantly - love. We believe that all children have the right to develop intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally, as well as to play and have a fun, safe childhood.

Role of Volunteer

1. Teach supplementary classes at the children at the orphanage, especially English and Mathematics, but also sports, arts, music, computers, etc if you like.
2. Help with overall coordination, budgeting, and creating long term development plans for the orphanage.
3. Assist in seeking permanent funding sources from local or international donors.
4. Since the current building is rented, when enough money the land and building of a permanent orphanage is raised, volunteers can help with building.
5. Building better beds, toilets, showers, and benches, as well as gardening.

Cost

Volunteers are asked to pay US $200 per month, which covers their accommodation and a donation to the orphanage. Volunteers are also invited to join the children at the orphanage for all meals.

Travel

The volunteer sends the project director their flight information and the director or coordinator meets the volunteer at the airport and travels with them to the project site.
