The Children’s home was built by Trips With a Mission, a service-oriented Christian group. The organisation has engaged in various types of projects from establishing a pre-school, providing a community center in South Andros to annual volunteer medical camps in Nepal. 2006 saw Trips with a Mission redefine their focus to work exclusively with children, specifically the Least of These.
Least of These are those who have no one. They are the poorest of the poor. Children who would have had no chance but who now have a bright future!
Fostering one child at a time approach to this Home, the director and founder of the Trips With a Mission, Suzy Sims, asserts the importance of the building a home and not an institution for the children.
To this end, the home is set within the grounds of a 15 acre plot of majestically breathtaking landscape views. The emphasis is on maintaining an inviting environment for the children to grow up in with space being the operative.
The exigent role of the volunteer within the home will be to help take care of the children on a daily basis. Living along aside the children, volunteers rapidly find themselves fully integrated into this special environment. Volunteers should try and help with chores around the house and also the cooking for the children. The children attend school outside the home, so volunteers will be required to accompany them.
Teaching
During the hours of 8am-2.30pm volunteers will
teach at the local school and so should consider what subjects, age group or
activities would best suit the abilities and capabilities of the volunteer. Upon
deciding, volunteers should notify the Volunteer Co-ordinator. Volunteers will
be required to preparer weekly lesson notes upon receipt of the National
Curriculum from the School.
US$ 250 if stay is less than 1 month, US $350 the first month and $100 for each month thereafter. This cost includes food, and accommodation. We also encourage volunteers to make a donations but this is totally optional!
The project coordinator meets new volunteers at the airport and drives them to the project.
