We are an organisation dedicated to helping passionate individuals find valuable experience in conservation for an affordable price. We showcase a wide range of amazing volunteer projects in Malaysia and Indonesia. Read more about us and our cause on our About Ecoteer page.
Ecoteer is a well-known organisation recommended by STA, Frontier and GoEco. It is literally our job to make sure you have the most worthwhile experience under our care, and we take this very seriously!
Our volunteer projects are spoken highly of by many past volunteers, interns and employees. Check out their testimonials on each project page, and peruse our volunteer and intern blog posts to see for yourself!
We do not have an age limit. Our oldest volunteer was 60 years old and took part in all Merapoh Rainforest Station activities!
Individuals 18 years or older can volunteer at all projects. Some projects may accept younger individuals as long as parental consent forms are provided. Furthermore, families with young children can be accommodated on some but not all programmes. Please check the specific FAQs for your project of choice for more details.
Joining in and a positive attitude is a must, but apart from that no other skills are needed! Our trained staff will teach you everything you need to know, and we can even provide full open-water certification for the Marine Research Station project.
Nope! You just need to speak English. However if willing, you’ll be able to pick up some useful key phrases in the local language while you are here.
We were hoping you would ask! There are 4 easy steps to booking your volunteering experience:
1) Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your initial inquiry. Tell us about yourself and the project you would like to join.
2) You will receive an email with more information and the application form to complete and send back.
3) On receipt of your application we will confirm your reservation and inform you how to make your deposit payment. Your reservation will be held for 2 weeks, after which it will be automatically cancelled if no deposit is received.
4) Full payment is required no later than 1 month before departure. You may pay online by credit card or a direct transfer to our account.
Please allow a minimum of 3 weeks for us to process your application and payment.
It’s that simple. Once your deposit has been paid you will receive our ‘Know before you go’ guide, which is packed full of useful information about your project and general tips to prepare you for volunteering.
Good news, you can now do one of two amazing combined programmes in Malaysia. You will be spending one or two weeks in each of two amazing locations. This is an even better way to experience what Malaysia has to offer whilst contributing to not one but two worthy causes. All combo projects allow you to immerse yourself in both the exotic rainforest and paradise island environments. Click here to find out more.
Accommodation is slightly different for each project. Project specific FAQs are found on each project page.
Locations of each project and advised routes to reach the locations are mentioned on specific project pages.
Off course! We are very proud of our friendly and talented team, who are happy to help throughout your project. All of the project staff have amazing local knowledge and skill-sets, making them the perfect leaders and teachers.
Any further queries you have before booking can be resolved easily on this page or by contacting us directly.
Ecoteer collaborate with a number of amazing conservation, wildlife rescue, and education projects. We work hard to make sure we benefit the environment, wildlife and local communities of each location, and are grateful that so many of you want to help these worthy causes. However, housing and providing for volunteers can be quite costly. Expenses that unfortunately our organisation and local communities are unable to support unassisted.
Your kind contribution to our eco cause helps pay for the continuation of these incredible programmes and thus the protection and conservation of the amazing Malaysian and Indonesian wildlife and environments. It also provides an array of benefits to the local communities.
Costs vary between projects, depending on location and skills taught. However, we pride ourselves on our highly competitive and affordable volunteering, interning and ecotourism experiences. For pricing please visit the specific project pages.
